Somerset completes milestone in building resilience

02 Nov 2016

Works on Somerset Regional Council’s Monsildale Bridge have completed thanks to major upgrades funded through the 2015 Betterment Fund.

Assistant Minister for Local Government Jennifer Howard attended a ceremony in Somerset on Wednesday 26 October 2016, to celebrate the completion of nine bridge projects throughout the region.

Council’s Betterment project replaced the old damaged timber bridge on Monsildale Road, which had been impacted by repeated floods, with a new concrete bridge and new concrete approaches.

The bridge, re-named Fredrickson Bridge, provides the vital rural link of Monsildale Road with a more resilient bridge that will be able to withstand future floods and provide uninterrupted access for the community.

The new bridge is one of 11 projects for Somerset Regional Council approved under the $20 million 2015 Betterment Fund under Category D of the joint Commonwealth-Queensland Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
